چکیده

This paper presents a new adaptive sampling method for implicit surfaces that can been used in both interactive modeling and animation. The algorithm samples implicit objects generated by skeletons and efficiently maintains this sampling, even when their topology changes over time such as during fractures and fusions. It provides two complementary modes of immediate visualization: displaying “scales” lying on the surface, or a piecewise polygonization. The sampling method is particularly well suited to efficiently avoid “unwanted blending” between different parts of an object. Moreover, it can be used for partitioning the implicit surface into local bounding boxes that will accelerate collision detection during animations and ray-intersections during final rendering.

Implicit Modelling with Skeleton Curves: Controlled Blending in Contact Situations

Interactive implicit modelling with complex skeletons was recently improved with the introduction of primitives de ned at di erent LODs. These implicit primitives use a subdivision curve as a skeleton. In this paper an extension to this representation is presented, in order to make it suitable for the interactive modelling and animation of soft objects in contact situations. The rst contributio...

Explicating Implicit Surfaces

In this paper I present a review of implicit surface techniques along with a summary of current problems and possible solutions. Implicit surface models can be made to blend and change their shape. Such properties as this make these models very useful for animation. I describe various interactive modelling and animation techniques such as the use of metamorphosis and warping. Implicit surfaces ...

Speeding Up Grid-Data Generation for Polygonisation of Implicit Surfaces

Implicit surfaces are particularly suitable for design and animation of smoothly blended objects that deform during motion. Such objects change their shape due to external forces, deform during collisions with other objects or conform to their environment. They are also able to squash and stretch, an effect essential in traditional animation yet often lacking in computer animation. However, vis...

Interactive shape design using metaballs and splines

Implicit surfaces have received increased attention in the design and animation of 3D objects, since they posses some useful advantages over the traditional parametric surfaces. However, interactive design of such surfaces generally suffers from the relatively slow display speed and lack of efficient control facilities. This paper experiments the combination of the implicit surface technique an...

IMPS: Implicit Surfaces for Interactive Animated Characters

Implicit surface modeling in computer graphics is a powerful technique for representing smooth and organic shapes. Skeletal elements of an implicit surface blend to create a smooth, seamless skin which exhibits desired properties for animation such as squash and stretch. Because of their high computational cost to render, implicit surfaces have not been used extensively in the real-time graphic...
